Project Simplify

Problem Details

Complexity is at the heart of most workplace issues, including job demands, excessive workload, and communication breakdowns. These issues ultimately impact the mental health of employees, affecting their stress and wellbeing.Yet, organisations are not
becoming simpler. They are steadily becoming more complex each year, expecting people to adapt and take more on as well.

Process & Tools used:

  • Systems Thinking
  • Co-design Sessions
  • Useability Testing
  • Ideation Sessions

Solution Details

Opposite completed a two-year major project for WorkSafe (as part of its Workwell grants program) that explored the relationship between workplace complexity and mental health.

Outcome

  • Demonstrated that increased complexity impacted self- reported mental health and physical proxys of mental health, such as sleep and readiness (as measured using health devices)
  • Developed a simplification intervention for partners Jemena and Metro Trains Melbourne
  • Developed a portal to use our simplification assessments and planning tools
